Stephen Ministry was established in 1975 by Kenneth Haughk, a pastor and clinical psychologist who saw the need to multiply the care giving in his congregation. God has called all of us, not just pastors, to minister to one another.
Stephen Ministers are not counselors: they are trained caregivers. Their role is to listen and care; not to give advice or counsel. Stephen Ministers are caring Christian friends who listen, understand, accept and pray for people who are working through a crisis or tough time.
Stephen Ministers help meet the needs of individuals who are: hospitalized, terminally ill, bereaved, in a job crisis, homebound, lonely or in a spiritual crisis.
Anyone in crisis who needs another to walk beside them to listen, pray with them or be there for them during crisis.
